Shoot Video Like a Pro
As with photography, good videography requires a bit of know-how; there's more to videography than just taking the camcorder out of the box and pressing Record. Luckily, I know how, so here's a list of ways you can improve your home movies. You won't come out Spielberg on the other side, nor even Lucas, but now your video submission to America's Funniest Home Videos will look a lot better.
Unleash your inner Spielberg with our Crash Course and Advanced Course on videography.
Mastering the ins and outs of effective filmmaking is no easy task. Still, whether you're taping a wedding or shooting a birthday party, you can take a few steps to ensure your movies don't look like the amateur videos found on YouTube. Before you pick up your camcorder, however, learn what the pros already know about successful cinematography. That means not only packing extra tapes and charged batteries, but also planning your shots, optimizing lighting conditions, and, most important, learning when to say "cut."
